We have had a great start to our summer term of debating.
On skills we have looked at body language, Active Listening, structure and opposition argumentation.
Our newsrounds have reflected on the London Marathon, the King's state visit to the USA, and Sir David Attenborough at 100.
Warm-up questions have included:
‘What is your favourite subject and why?’
‘Is Spring better than all the other seasons?’
‘Is it more enjoyable to read a book or watch the movie version?’
‘Is money the key to happiness?’
‘What did you enjoy most over the Easter holidays?’
‘Should we all have to learn a musical instrument?’
‘Train or Photography: which is the more important invention?’
Our debating motions have included:
‘This House believes that all woods should be open to the public across the UK’.
‘This House believes that board games are better than video games’.
‘This House believes we should have a longer lunch break at school’.
‘This House would ban fast food from school lunches’.
‘This House believes dogs make better pets than cats’.
‘This House believes that Bansky should be able to put up art at any location’.
‘This House believes school trips are more educational than lessons.’
In each case it has been super to see/hear the constructive discussion and argumentation from our Chepstow groups.
As always we have plenty of voting and this has revealed excellent active listening.
We hope that many will be able to join for our competitions in June.
More details to follow.
Very well done all!
