Debating Competition Knightsbridge vs WCCS - 27th February 2025

Following a very successful competition last year between the two schools, we carried out another competition via video-link between our WCCS Junior debating club and our Knightsbridge debating and interview club.

Both groups were very excited at the prospect and carried that enthusiasm into the debates - with plenty of rhetorical questions and impressive argumentation.

Discussions around AI featured prominently in debate 1; and the sacredness of tombs in debate 3.

We will be working on active listening and rebuttal later in the term and these are targets for both groups in forthcoming competitions.

Our motions included:

'This House believes that technology makes us less intelligent'; & 'Is it ok to uncover and research royal tombs?' (on the back of the archeological news in Egypt); we also looked at the question 'Should all teachers have a teaching qualification?'.

Well done all to those that participated with excellent contributions from both schools.

WCCS won narrowly debates 1 and 3, but Knightsbridge held sway decisively in debate 2, giving them victory overall.

On this occasion the cup goes to Knightsbridge, leaving it all square in the competitions to date.

Looking forward to the rematch!
