Further excellent progress this week with our debating and interview clubs at Kensington Wade. For skills we turned to summary speaking and the importance of style and tone.
Our warm-up questions asked:
‘Do animals have feelings?’ &
‘Should we be polite to Alexa?’
In addition to a newsround featuring the government announcement on ID cards, the Ryder Cup, the England triumph in the Women’s Rugby Union World Cup – we debated the motions/topics:
· This House would ban contact sport
· This House would not introduce Digital ID cards
· Should we be building new towns?
· Why should we study history?
· With the Bayeux Tapestry set to be loaned to UK after 900 years, we asked ‘is it safe to move such historical objects, and does seeing the real item make a difference, or can a replica or an online version work?’
In each case we voted before and after and it was great to see such nuance in the argumentation presented, not least over the study of history and the question of moving historic items/artefacts.
Very well done all!
