We have had a great first half of term at Knightsbridge School.
Our newsrounds have grown, and we have covered an extensive range of topics and events from recent news including VE Day celebrations (and a new coin), Trump's gulf trade tour, the election and inauguration of the new Pope, Global Tariffs, the M&S Cyber attack, Eurovision and the recent loan of rock dust from the moon lent by China to UK. One of the most impressive debates centred on the motion: 'This House prefers audiobooks to printed texts'.
In addition, amongst other topics, we have explored whether those 'humans are more important than the natural world around us' inspired by the work of David Attenborough (turning 99 this year). We have also examined philosophical questions, such as 'it is better to be right or better to be kind'. On skills we have worked on opening and closing statements, POIs and rhetorical questions. It has been great to see the group push for middle ground/via media options during our sessions - as they see the nuance to each debate and question.
We have also looked at unseen-'on this day' examples, the theme this week took in the execution in 1536 of Anne Boleyn. Previous examples have included the first vaccination (smallpox) in 1796.
Well done all on such an impressive first half of the term!
