We were hugely impressed with the first Knightsbridge Enrichment session of the second half of term – with a focus on debating and public speaking.
Our skills of the week focussed on body language skills and the ancient concept of PATHOS – and how to garner and elicit pity from an audience, from the argument being made. The aim being to inspire an emotional response.
Following a newsround, we tackled three debating motions:
· ‘This House would ban disposable vapes’.
· Should we not just ban zoos? Rather than reform the rules to improve animal welfare?
· ‘This House would have more Drama lessons in Schools’.
We divided for the first debate with a proposition and opposition team and then in the following two debates, divided into pairs.
It was great to see such tremendous contributions from across the floor and students growing in confidence as the session progressed.
Well done all!
