St Andrew’s School - 29th September 2025

We continue to make excellent progress with our debating group at St Andrew’s. This week on skills we turned to summary speaking and the importance of style and tone.

Our warm-up questions asked:

‘Do animals have feelings?’ &

‘Should we be polite to Alexa?’

In addition to a newsround featuring the government announcement on ID cards, the Ryder Cup, the England triumph in the Women’s Rugby Union World Cup – we debated the motions/topics:

·         This House would ban contact sport

·         This House would not introduce Digital ID cards

·         Should we be building new towns?

In each case we voted before and after and it was great to see such nuance in the argumentation presented, particularly on the security concerns around Digital ID.
