St Andrew's School - 3rd November 2025

It was great to resume sessions post half-term and what an excellent resumption.

For skills we turned to conclusions and objectivity.

Our warm-up questions asked:

‘Describe your favourite fictional character’ – with an emphasis on varied vocabulary &

‘What was the highlight of your half-term?’

In addition to a newsround featuring the Louvre jewellery heist and the Hurricane in Jamaica we debated the motions/topics:

·         Should healthcare or education be a priority in the forthcoming budget?

·         Do we need another COP conference? - with Brazil COP30 fast approaching

·         Given the failure of correct licensing, do we expect too much from our politicians? Or Should the Chancellor have resigned? What do we think of 2nd chances?

·         What is more important for policing – a theft as in the case of the Louvre? Or bicycle theft?

The final debate on this comparison had the group keenly engaged and we will pick this up again next week. As always, in each case we voted before and after and it was great to see such nuance in the argumentation presented, and the use of objectivity.

Very well done all!
