St Andrew’s School - 8th September 2025

This was a tremendous start to the term with our debating club at St Philip’s. It was super to begin the academic year with such enthusiasm and impressive argumentation.

Current affairs took in the resignation of the deputy Prime Minister and government national smartphone alert/testing.

Our warm-up questions looked at highlights from the holidays – from the Isle of Wight to Sardinia and swimming with turtles.

Our skill focus turned to the building-blocks of proposition and opposition argumentation as well as body language.  

Our set-piece motions and philosophical topics/questions included:

·         ‘This House would choose to be famous’

·         ‘Is Chess a Sport?’

·         ‘This House would ban iPads and screens in school’ (following the actor Hugh Grant’s campaign)

Well done all on a super start to the term.
