Great skills work on persuasive language techniques in our session this week and a newsround that also impressed with reference to Los Angeles, Mount Etna and the Glacier/avalanche in Switzerland amongst other topics.
Our unseen of the week featured an image from the 1944 D-Day Landings. We reflected on the sacrifice and bravery displayed and the impact on the world from that historic occasion.
Debating motions took in the topics/questions:
· World Ocean Day and what we should be doing? – the group used the rather poignant word of ‘sacred’ to describe the oceans, with a view to a nature reserve/safari/national trust idea to preserve these precious spaces.
· ‘Should all new homes have solar panels?’ following the education secretary/department policy
· Should all schools have residentials?
· Following the Musk-Trump split, we turned to the motion ‘This House would not have unelected members of the public joining governments’
A very encouraging session with excellent argumentation, and a fascinating discussion and review of ‘power’ body language dynamics from, political leaders.
Well done all!
