A super set of sessions with so much to discuss from International Day for Women to the conflict in the Middle East, the Paralympic Winter Games, the T20 cricket world cup, the Six Nations and a potential social media ban in the UK.
Our skill focus this week turned to Ethos, Pathos and Logos, with particular emphasis on Pathos.
Our warm-up questions asked:
‘Is it better to be healthy or wealthy?’ &
‘Should cookery be part of the day-to-day curriculum?’
In the first instance voting for a middle ground swept ahead at both tellings in the Junior group, whilst the Senior by 54% voted in favour of wealthy – with all the medicine and power that wealth can bring. In the second case, cookery was carried at both tellings for both groups as either a classroom activity or an after-school club.
The set-piece debating motions this week included:
· This House would follow one’s talent rather than one’s dreams
· This House would be happy to travel in a driverless car
· This House would invest in finding a Planet B for settlement
Each motion saw voting split with excellent argumentation throughout.
Very well done all!
