As interview season begins the Socratic club hosted two zoom workshops (either side of half term) exclusively for WCCS pupils.
We were very impressed with the concentration skills show and the superb questions throughout.
During the sessions we covered:
Mind Maps
Core questions
Why School questions
Philosophical thinking questions
Current affairs - from global politics to regional and local news
Unseen work: from texts such as the poem The General, to David's painting of Napoleon's Coronation, and other images
Group interview format
& Questions for the interviewer
In each case students trialed various examples, working on enhancing their responses in each instance using the idea of a mind-map, personalisation, self-promotion and positivity.
In addition we looked at examples of negative questions and how best to use detail and examples/evidence to transform an answer and avoid unnecessary prompting.
The session involved both group and individual work. It was fantastic to see the questions asked by WCCS students and the very sophisticated way in which they approached the session.
We will be hosting a further workshop in January on interview work, in addition to our regular Socratic club debating sessions ... do look out for dates and notifications. More details to follow soon.
Well done all on these two sessions!
