Chepstow House School - Lent Term 2026

This has been a great first half of term and wonderful to see the progress made by our groups. On skills we have looked at body language, speaking with conviction and pre-empting the opposition/proposition, and how to analyse unseen work.

For warm-up questions we have covered core interview questions along with philosophical thinking questions, including for examples: 'what is your favourite subject and why?'; 'who is your favourite fictional character and why?'; 'what is your new year's resolution, and why?'; 'is it better to be wealthy or healthy?'. This has then been followed by a closer look at various debating motions (splitting into teams to replicate competition format).

We have debated a range of subjects, for example, 'should we only eat food produced in Britain?' and 'is it too early to be selling Easter eggs?'. A particular theme of this half term has been promoting the importance of listening attentively to the other side's arguments during debates.

The children all enjoy the opportunity to contribute and there is never any shortage of energy in the room!

Very well done all.
