American School of London - 25th February 2026

This week we started our session discussing whether we should study astronomy. Most of the students decided they should as a short term topic, but felt not as a full course. Interestingly, some felt that home economics and life skills would be a subject they would consider to be more important.

We then discussed Sweden and Scotland’s right to roam and questioned whether this should be put in place across the whole of the UK. This then led to a longer discussion about rules sometimes put in place, where natural respect and common sense comes in.

We also debated age limits that the children felt should be changed, such as voting and the age a president or prime minister should be when coming into power.

Following on from a comment that Trump had previously said to President Zelensky of Ukraine, our main debate of the day looked at whether general elections should be held during war time. The students were undeniably exceptionally strong here, and their focus was on a well rounded argument with examples. It was agreed that all made strong points and therefore we had a coalition with joint Prime Ministers of the Week for all of them.

This week was a great week of discussion and opinion and it was clear to see the fantastic progress they have made! Very well done all.
