This was a super session post our half-term break with our Knightsbridge Debating & Interview club.
There was much to discuss following the US Presidential election result and Guy Fawkes and Halloween celebrations/parties.
Our skills of the week looked at Style and Tone and Objectivity.
For our warm-up interview style questions we looked at how 'your friends would describe you in 3 words'.
This saw an excellent range of vocabulary and justification.
We then turned to a vote on whether we should (i.e. the UK/and or indeed other countries allied and reliant on the USA) have a say on US elections given the importance of the US and the US President to our economy and in military/security terms? Not least with NATO.
The group remained split at both tellings. Many felt we should have some form of proportional voice, whilst others disliked the sense or potential sense of electoral interference, and would we like such an idea in our own country?
Our newsround took in:
Sporting news across the world of Football, the Floods in Spain, and the Budget in the UK.
We ended with a debate centred on whether it is better to plant trees or build houses?
The majority narrowly voted for Houses - on the basis of helping the homeless and the lack of provision of housing more generally in the UK.
Well done all on an excellent session!
