We have been hugely impressed with our debating and interview groups at Chepstow House.
This term we have focussed on key body language skills, introductory remarks, conclusions, summaries, points of information (POIs), active listening and how to manage public speaking nerves.
We have tackled a mix of interview and philosophical thinking questions, with particular focus on technological inventions and wider technology discussions.
Our newsrounds have taken in topics from around the world including:
the new Trump presidency
Sporting news, from the Six Nations to the Super Bowl
AI and social media
The Grammys
A new Space Race
Rachel Reeves and the UK economy
Climate change and Global Warming
We have also introduced an on this day unseen image - these have featured Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher amongst other examples.
Our debates have looked at the motions (amongst others):
This House believes bottled water is better than tap water
Should contact sports be banned for school children?
If you could be famous when you are older, would you like to be?
Effort is more important than Grades?
This House would keep art works in their country of origin
Is it ethical to take short-haul flights?
Should we have more science in schools?
Should we have more music in schools?
Well done all on an excellent first half of term!
