Knightsbridge School - 26th January

This week we began with a newsround-up of world events and it was great to see that many in the group had turned to First News and The Week Junior. The group highlighted the PMs lack of seatbelt wearing and the question of whether tanks should be provided for Ukraine. We then turned to skills of the week from rhetoric to improving argumentation and presentations with conviction. It was particularly encouraging to hear so many using rhetorical questions during their debates or POI interventions. Our debate of the week centred on whether the Prime Minister (Rishi Sunak) and the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Jeremy Hunt) should have attended the Davos conference. After an excellent formal debate of proposition and opposition, with the group split into teams, the voting held that they should have attended. Whilst the climate impact of flying there and the questions of corruption weighed heavily on the opposition side, it was nevertheless, still felt, that only attending these events can trigger change, and without such gatherings nothing will be done - whether to tackle economic problems of world, inflation, poverty or indeed global warming. Well done all for such impressive points and such impressive argumentation!
