Revision and Exam Technique Workshop - 24th April

Hristina Ivanova

We would like to thank all those who attended the first Socratic Club exam technique and revision workshop and made it such a success. The workshop was designed to provide students with the key skills to support their exam preparation and revision to maximise their performance on the day. The session was divided into three sessions with a longer break in the middle which was spent in the garden square.

Our first session focused on revision technique, we discussed how to create and use effective revision timetables and mind maps along with top tips for revision success. At this stage we divided the class with the older students discussing memory techniques whilst the younger students worked on creating mind maps.

Our second session of the day focused on the exam itself with discussion of how to manage your time during the exam, how to think like an examiner and top tips for success on the day. We then divided again with the senior students practising question structures using a GCSE English essay question whilst the younger students prepared a list of their favourite techniques and tips.

In our final session of the day, we looked at stress management and mental wellbeing during the exam season. Something often overlooked in a school setting. We discussed tips and best practices for staying healthy and calm during revision, whilst our mentoring expert - Anastasia - led us through several breathing exercises.

We were delighted with the focus and energy all our students brought to the session and greatly look forward to our next workshop event.
