Following excellent performances at our Zoom Socratic Debating Competition, this week saw another impressive session with our St Kitt's International Academy Debating and Public Speaking club.
We began with a focus on Public Speaking Nerves and how best to prepare for presentations and debating more generally.
We then turned to a newsround with a review of various Whitehouse announcements, Trump Tariffs, Aviation news, North Korean tensions, and a tragic shooting in Sweden.
Our warm-up discussions and debates looked at:
Whether grades or effort matter more
Do we prefer individual or team sport?
Bottled water vs Tap water
This House would ban contact sport
What is the most important meal of the day?
As an unseen we reviewed an image of Nelson Mandela as we near the anniversary of his release from prison in 1990, and we briefly reflected on his extraordinary life, later as President of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Throughout we saw a mix of voting with compelling arguments on both sides of each debate as well as many taking a via media option and presenting their own middle course. It was great to see points be itemized, active listening, and some very good POIs too.Well done all!
